In Memory of John david charles Thompson

John Thompson Jan 18th 1985 - Jan 1st 2021

John Thompson grew up in Liberty Missouri and started off as a print model in middle school for Payless, Best Buy, and Good-Guys when he first fell in love with dance and began taking formal lessons at the Conservatory of Dance Education under the direction of Mr. Phil Vitug.
His natural talent was immediately noticed and he was soon awarded a scholarship to Steps on Broadway in New York City where he moved and studied at Broadway Dance Center. His career took him around the country at a very young age, first in Backstage Las Vegas and The Edge in Los Angeles. He went on to do benefits for New Orleans Hurricane Katrina clean up efforts as a backup dancer/choreographer and was sponsored by the BET network and The United Way.
In 2006 John moved to las Vegas as a contracted singer/dancer at the Rio Hotel’s Show in the Sky where he performed regularly for two years.
After an injury ending his professional performing career John moved to Phoenix, AZ and worked for 8 years as a dance educator before eventually relocating back to his origins in Kansas City metro area and changing directions in his professional life as a mail carrier for the United States postal service.

John had a strong love for dance and the performing arts in general, and understood how the arts can drastically change the life of an aspiring student. Because of this, John selflessly and anonymously, sponsored countless dancers with the Stage Crew Performing Arts Center and Midwest Dance Synergy from 2003-2020,  never once asking for any recognition in doing so.

His belief that the performing arts can change both lives and communities continues to live on in the students and next generation of dancers which he inspired and supported.
